Key races that haven’t been called yet

The outcomes of some hotly contested races remain unclear as election officials continue to tally votes Thursday. The fates of several House and Senate seats were also uncertain as totals continued to roll in from precincts throughout the country.

Each state has its own rules for when different kinds of ballots can be counted.

Former President Donald Trump is projected to win the presidency for a second term.

Vice President Kamala Harris promised a peaceful transfer of power to Trump in a concession speech to her supporters on Wednesday.

Balance of Power in Congress

Republicans are projected to regain control over the Senate, yet what happens with the House has yet to be determined.

A total of 34 U.S. Senate seats were determined on Election Day, with Democrats and Independents representing 23 of those races.

Meanwhile, Republicans held a narrow majority in the U.S. House of Representatives with 220 seats over the Democrats who held 212 and three seats being vacant into Tuesday’s election.
