NEW YORK (PIX11) — Presidential candidate Donald Trump held a rally this evening at Madison Square Garden Sunday evening, where thousands of people congregated inside and outside.

While Trump addressed the crowds indoors, many supporters and protestors gathered outside of MSG.

“The economy is in trouble,” said George Schmidt, a Trump supporter who traveled from Long Island for the event. Schmidt cited illegal citizens, foreign policy, and the events in Israel as reasons why he supports the Republican candidate.

However, just steps away was a group of those who oppose Trump and his rhetoric, claiming that many of the supporters in attendance were not New Yorkers.

Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally: 5 takeaways

“On any other given day, no one is wearing a Make America Great Again hat,” said Noel Jacoboni, a Kamala Harris supporter. “No one is wearing a red hat. That doesn’t happen here.”

Diana Barry, another Harris supporter, sat outside MSG since the afternoon. She already cast her vote for Harris, saying that aside from reproductive rights, another aspect that has her worried is the recent legal battle Trump faces.

“He was convicted 34 times,” said Barry. “He is a criminal. Why isn’t he in jail? If it was anybody else, they would be in jail by now.”

Meanwhile, Trump supporters like Brandon Young who was born and raised in Brooklyn and has been following Trump since 2015, say his unwavering support hasn’t changed and now more than ever, Trump needs to win due to the migrant crisis New York City currently faces.

“I’m a firm believer in immigration legally,” said Young. “My parents came here legally. If you are trying to seek asylum, do it legally.”

The rally wrapped up around 8:30 p.m. Early voting in New York began Saturday.
