Breaking down the numbers in race for Pennsylvania

(NewsNation) — Pennsylvania is one of several battleground states that could be crucial to the presidential election.

According to the latest Decision Desk HQ polling averages, former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris by 0.2% in the Keystone State.

Pennsylvania is worth 19 electoral votes and is pivotal to the successes of Republicans or Democrats.

There are 6.3 million registered voters in the state of Pennsylvania, with the top two counties being Allegheny County, which is home to Pittsburgh, and then Philadelphia County, home to Philadelphia.

What states could delay how quickly the 2024 election is called?

Racial demographics may make a difference in Pennsylvania. Nearly 40% of the registered voters in Philadelphia are Black, more than any other racial category. Philadelphia County is the only county in Philadelphia that has more registered Black voters than any other racial demographic.

The Democrats won Philadelphia County in 2016 and 2020 by a large margin. Hillary Clinton secured 82.5% of the vote to Trump’s 15.4%. Fast forward to 2020: President Joe Biden secured 81.4% of the vote to Trump’s 17.9%.

Democrats are concerned about their support dwindling. If that were to be the case, it could spell trouble for the chances of a Harris presidency.

The vice president announced she has yet another campaign stop in Philadelphia this Sunday. Such is the importance of Pennsylvania in the race to the White House.
