SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — In little over a month, Americans from coast to coast will engage in the collective quadrennial act of electing a new national leader, and voter registration in Louisiana is up from 2023.

The Louisiana Secretary of State’s website has statewide voter registration statistics available. Comparing data from September 2023 to September 2024, the total number of registered voters in the state has climbed to 3,000,678 from 2,966,162 in the previous year and a little over three weeks before the online voter registration deadline of October 15.

Data for 2024 shows a slight dip in registrations from January to February; however, the number has grown incrementally every month since March, with the most significant increase in August.

The most considerable voter demographic bump is among younger voters, and increases in female voter registration are slightly more than for males. Registration for ages 18-20 grew by more than 15,000 statewide; it is worth noting that every age demographic has increased over the last year.

Looking at the data in a year-over-year party breakdown, the number of registered Democrats decreased. In contrast, the number of registered Republicans increased by more than 30K.

Caddo, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, and Orleans, the state’s most populated parishes, showed a considerable increase in registered voters in 2024.
